This Privacy Policy explains how the Penzel iOS app ("Penzel", "we", "the app") handles your information. The short version: Penzel does not collect personally-identifying data. The only information leaving your device is anonymized crash reports (Section 3) when the app crashes. Usage analytics are disabled in this version (Section 4).
Penzel does not collect, process, or transmit any of the following:
Penzel uses one Google Firebase service for technical purposes — Crashlytics for crash reporting (Section 3) — which does not collect data that can identify you personally. The Firebase Analytics SDK is linked but data collection is disabled in this version (Section 4).
The app stores the following data only on your device, never transmitted anywhere:
You can clear all of this data at any time by uninstalling Penzel.
Penzel uses Firebase Crashlytics, a Google service, to automatically collect anonymized crash reports when the app crashes unexpectedly. We use this data solely to identify and fix bugs that affect real users.
What is transmitted when a crash occurs:
What Crashlytics does NOT collect:
The Firebase Analytics SDK is linked in the app bundle, but data collection is disabled (the SDK's IS_ANALYTICS_ENABLED setting is set to false). No usage events, screen-view events, or session data are sent to Google for analytics purposes.
FirebaseAnalyticsIdentitySupport and does not show an App Tracking Transparency promptAny device information Firebase collects in connection with crash reporting (Section 3) is the only telemetry leaving your device. Google's handling of crash data is additionally governed by Firebase's Privacy Information and Google's general privacy policy.
If a future version of Penzel enables analytics, this Privacy Policy will be updated before that change ships and the App Store privacy disclosures will be updated accordingly (Section 9).
Penzel offers one optional in-app purchase: Penzel Full Access ($9.99 USD, one-time, non-consumable). This purchase is processed entirely by Apple's StoreKit framework. Apple — not Penzel — receives and processes your payment information. Penzel never sees your credit card, billing address, or Apple ID.
Refunds are handled by Apple per their App Store refund policy. We have no ability to issue or deny refunds directly.
Each recipe and diagnostic entry in Penzel includes a source attribution link to its origin — typically a public article on Goonhammer. When you tap a source link, the article opens in an in-app Safari browser (SFSafariViewController). Safari handles its own privacy and may set its own cookies according to your Safari settings; we have no visibility into your browsing within those sessions.
Penzel is suitable for ages 4+ and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children. The data collection described in Sections 3 and 4 is anonymized and does not include any personal identifiers that could be used to identify a child specifically.
Penzel collects no personally-identifying data. The aggregated, anonymized data described in Sections 3 and 4 is most-regulator-treated as non-personal data when it cannot be linked to an individual (as is the case here). You retain all the rights guaranteed by GDPR, CCPA, and similar laws:
If a future version of Penzel introduces features beyond the current crash reporting and anonymous analytics that require additional data collection — for example, optional cloud sync, an online Q&A feature, or behavioral targeting — we will update this Privacy Policy before shipping the change, and any new data collection will be clearly disclosed and (where appropriate) require your opt-in consent.
If we change this Privacy Policy materially, we will update the date at the top of this document and (if the change introduces new data collection) prompt you in-app to review the changes. Continued use of Penzel after the effective date of a change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
